One killed, another wounded in shooting in South Rome Wednesday night
On Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at approximately 9:34pm, E911 received a call about gunshots in the area of South Rome. Responding officers located an adult male lying in the street on Grover Ave with at least one gunshot wound. At 9:37pm officers then located another adult male lying in the 100 block of Broad St, also suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Both subjects were taken to Floyd Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. One of the subjects, James Edward Parks, was later pronounced dead at Floyd Medical Center. The other subject is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries. At this time the Rome Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is actively investigating and seeking any information related to these shooting incidents. Rome Police Detectives are requesting assistance from the community by asking any business owners or residents in the Broad St/South Rome St/E. 2nd Ave areas to notify them of any surveillance videos that may have captured a white vehicle traveling along this route between 9:30 pm and 9:45 pm last night (June 14, 2017). This vehicle was transporting one of the gunshot victims to the hospital when it was involved in a minor traffic accident in the 100 block of Broad St (northbound). The gunshot victim then got out of the car and was later located lying on the street. Detectives are seeking to identify the driver of this vehicle as well as any potential video of it.
