GBI called to Cohutta after a bomb threat Thursday afternoon

Today at approx. 4pm officers stopped a vehicle on Hwy 71 and it pulled onto Nob North Dr. The driver was found to be DUI drugs and a check of his vehicle revealed some homemade explosive devices and more believed to be inside the vehicle. The GBI Bomb Squad has been notified and residences have been evacuated within 1000 yds. A small portion of Nob North Dr. is closed to traffic until the situation is deemed safe for the residents of the area.MCCD Officers, Varnell Police, Cohutta Police, GSP, Whitfield County Fire and Whitfield County Sheriff's Dept along with the GBI Bomb Squad are on the scene actively working to keep the citizens safe.

Officials say Cleveland Highway at Nob North Drive in Cohutta Georgia is shut down after a MCCD Officer found Bombs inside a white older model Jeep. The incident happened Thursday afternoon around 4:00p.m. The officer quickly requested bomb squad to his location. GBI special agent Joe Montgomery who specializes in bombs was called to the scene. Whitfield County Fire along with EMS and Multiple Law enforcement agencies are on scene. Officers are measuring with laser sites on Cleveland highway may start evacuating houses in the area.
