Officer taken to Erlanger after serious crash on I-75 Monday afternoon

A Ringgold Police Officer is recovering after he was hit by a car while working to clean a bad accident on Interstate 75 Monday, according to Ringgold Police (RPD). The accident happened after the officers were helping other law enforcement agencies clear a bad wreck on Interstate 75. near the 348 mile marker, where a motorist lost the drive shaft on the vehicle. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Veodis Gains was pulling a trailer when he hit the officers. Gains told police he didn't see the emergency vehicles. He has been cited for failure to maintain lane and failure to move over. Police officers were working to clear the scene when a motorist failed to abide by the "Move Over" law and struck two RPD vehicles that had their blue lights activated. One of the officers, who was not in his vehicle, managed to escape unharmed. But RPD says the second officer, who was inside his vehicle, was hurt badly, and had to be extricated from his patrol car. Ringgold Police Department says he suffered several broken bones and "may require surgery" But they say that the unidentified officer remains "in good spirits" and is expected to make a full recovery.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating a wreck involving multiple vehicles, including a law enforcement officer. It happened just north of the 348 exit this afternoon on I-75 Northbound. A witness said the officer was helping a motorist change a tire shortly before the crash happened. The crash happened around 2:30 Monday afternoon. Multiple Law enforcement agencies responded to the crash along with Angel EMS and Catoosa Fire department We’re told the officer involved in the crash was injured and taken to Erlanger hospital. Several others were also hospitalized, but it is not known how severe their injuries are at this time. We will have more information once it is released.
