Rossville Man Arrested After Leading Authorities on Wild High Speed Chase

A Rossville, Georgia man is in the Chattooga County Jail after leading authorities on a high speed chase Wednesday evening. It started after multiple citizens reported to Chattooga 911 the vehicle driving erratic and reckless down Highway 27. A BOLO was issued for the vehicle to area law enforcement and a short time later, the vehicle was spotted by a Chattooga County Deputy. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the car sped away. According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, twenty-eight-year-old Michael Brandon Simmons drove all over Chattooga County at a high rate of speed attempting to elude officers. The chase went through the City of Summerville where Summerville Police join the chase down Highway 48 into Menlo and turned down Highway 337. At times Simmons reached speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour. Sheriff Schrader said that the deputy was lead in the chase until Georgia State Patrol trooper got in the chase and took the lead while the chase continued on Highway 337 through Teloga and into Walker County. Simmons was finally taken into custody near Parker Lane in Walker County and was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol. Simmons is facing a long list of charges related to the chase along aggressive driving, defective/without taillights/taillight lenses, defective tires, driving on the wrong side of roadway, driving too fast for conditions, driving with suspended/revoked license, drugs to be kept in original container, DUI/alcohol, engaging in activities that distract from safe vehicle operation, expired tag, failure to maintain single lane, failure to signal when turning/changing lanes, failure to stop at stop sign, fleeing/attempting to elude officer, following too closely, headlights required at certain times, hit and run/leaving scene of accident resulting in serious injury/death, improper/erratic lane change, littering, no insurance/no proof of insurance, open container of alcohol, possession of drug related items, reckless driving, seat belt violation, speeding 123 mph in a 55, tag light illumination required, VGCSA possession of meth, schedule II hydrocodone, willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, and windshield/windshield wipers/window violation.. He is being held in the Chattooga County Jail without bond. You can watch the ending of the pursuit and listen to audio of the chase as it played out over multiple frequencies.
