GBI investigating officer-involved shooting involving Whitfield County Deputy

Deputies were dispatched to 102 S. Adela Dr. at 1:53am, reference to a Hispanic male subject that was acting very paranoid. The female caller (wife) stated that her husband was bi-polar and was off his medication and had been acting very strange. She stated that he had in his possession a machete and hammer. When the Deputies arrived on the scene and identified themselves, the male subject exited t he front door frantically waving an objectaggressively at the Deputies. Giving numerous verbal commands continually, the subject refusing to "drop it." One of the Deputies discharged his service weapon striking the man in the shoulder. The male subject continued to be combative and resisting while EMT's were attempting to administer first aid and transport him. The subject was transported to Hamilton Medical Center with what appeared to be a non-life threatening injury. The G.B.I. is assisting with the investigation.
