Suspect wanted after escaping from the Floyd County Courthouse

Dustin Earl Cotton (white male) escaped from custody while at the Floyd County Courthouse today at 11:58 am. Deputies at the courthouse reported to E911 at that time that Cotton had fled the courthouse on foot. An immediate and heavy law enforcement response to the area resulted in the location of what is believed to be the clothing that he was wearing when he escaped (orange inmate pants/shirt and shoes). A large search was conducted by all local law enforcement agencies in an attempt to apprehend Dustin Earl Cotton. Local law enforcement officers called in a Georgia State Patrol helicopter to assist with the search for the escaped inmate . The search was called off in College Street area after a search by Rome police, Floyd County police, Floyd Sheriff's deputies, parole and probation officers and other law enforcement. He was being held on charges robbery, carjacking attempting to elude police and kidnapping charges.
