A Walker County, Ga., detention officer was arrested Saturday for murdering his son. Pat Wooten, 58, is being held at the Catoosa County Jail on one count of malice murder. According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Wooten is charged with shooting his son, 30-year-old Patrick Lance Wooten, in the chest at their home on Hood Avenue in Chickamauga shortly before noon Saturday. The Call came in to Walker County 911 at 11:54 a.m. according to reports. First responders responded to the 1009 Hood Avenue home to find Patrick Lance Wooten suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, he was declared dead at the scene. Walker County Coroner Dewayne Wilson said he would be taking the body to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur, Ga. Investigators have not release much information into the Saturday shooting. Chickamauga police arrested Patrick Lance Wooten on April 25 on a charge of simple battery, family violence. He bonded out of jail Tuesday. The fatal shooting is said to have started after an argument between the father and son about Patrick's
arrest last Saturday morning. The is said to have argument escalated which lead to Pat shooting his son Patrick. According to Walker County court records Patrick Lance Wooten has a very lengthy criminal history most recently arrested in August, court records show. The father Pat Wooten has had a long career in law enforcement, Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said. Before that, he worked as a paramedic in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He worked for the police departments in Rossville and Chickamauga, Wilson said. Beginning in the 1990s, he also worked for Hutcheson Medical Center as the hospital's EMS director and security director. It is unclear how long Pat Wooten had worked at the Walker County jail, but it's estimated about six years.
