Shortly after 9a.m. Saturday morning May 6, Gordon County 911 dispatched first responders to I-75 South to a report crash involving multiple tractor trailers and passenger cars. Upon the fire departments arrival they found tractor trailers and vehicles fully engulfed in flames. Gordon Sheriff's along with Georgia State Patrol quickly shutdown the interstate I-75 southbound just south of exit 310. Traffic was diverted off the interstate as a result, Calhoun and Gordon County was inundated with thousands of motorists seeking a detour around the closure. At 2:30pm, two of the Southbound lanes were reopened with the outer lane still closed. Traffic is moving again and state highways and secondary roads are clearing. unknown what caused the crash the Georgia State Patrol is investigating. Although there was congestion in several areas, mostly due to a high volume of tractor-trailer traffic, no other major incidents were reported and travel is returning to normal. In an unrelated incident, a large GDOT directional sign on State Route 136 in Resaca near the Intersection with Interstate 75 has been damaged by high winds and has necessitated the closure of the westbound (State Route 136) lane at that location. GDOT has been summoned to repair the sign.
