Firefighters battle two-story house fire early Wednesday morning in the City of LaFayette

Update: LaFayette PD is assisting the state Fire Marshal's Office, in investigating a vacant house fire that is suspected to be arson. The house has been vacant for a while and there was no electricity running in the home the house was completely destroyed. anyone with information or who may have seen some suspicious activity is asked to contact the LaFayette Police Department at 706-639-1540.

Walker County 911 dispatched firefighters Wednesday, May, 3, just before 1:00 a.m., to a report of a large vacant residential structure fire on Simmons Street in the City of LaFayette. The LaFayette Police Department, LaFayette Fire Department Engine 24, Squad 21, Company 8 (Walker State Prison) along with automatic aid from Walker County Emergency Services station 11, and Puckett EMS unit 804 (for standby) all responded to the house fire. LaFayette Fire Department Engine 24 arrived shortly after police, they established Simmons Street command and advised a two-story wood frame house nearly fully involved. Firefighters from both the City of LaFayette and Walker County battled the large house fire into the early morning hours. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The same firefighters battled a house fire on Shaw Street couple streets over just last Wednesday shortly after midnight. The one-story house was also completely destroyed and was vacant at the time of the fire.
