Suspect charged in fatal Chattooga County crash

A felony homicide by vehicle warrant was issued for the arrest of a 40-year-old driver who killed a Lyerly resident last Thursday. Brandon Heath Drennan, of 590 West Washington Street, Summerville, is charged with killing Lavonne Humphrey, 45, during a two vehicle crash Thursday morning on Highway 100. Drennan is accused of driving into oncoming traffic on Highway 100 in his 1994 Nissan King Cab truck. Georgia State Patrol had to get a search warrant at the hospital to get a sample of Drennan's blood due to him refusing a voluntary blood test. Drennan is also being charged with DUI, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, violation of the open container law and unsafe vehicle, according to arrest reports. This is not the first time Drennan has been arrested he has a lengthy criminal history. He was arrested earlier this year in February on charges of failure to stop at stop sign, fleeing /attempting to elude officer, open container of alcohol, willful obstruction of law enforcement officer. Drennan was also arrested in 2010 and 2009 for pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In 2008 Drennan was arrested for DUI / Alcohol, Driving Violations The victim Lavonne Humphrey was an ordained minster who was pastor at several churches in the area and currently a pastor at Calhoun Ave Baptist Church in Calhoun. Humphrey also worked at Best Manufacturing Co. in Menlo. (The Summerville News)
