GBI investigating shooting involving US Marshals in Chattooga County

GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Chattooga County, GA Chattooga County, Georgia – On Monday, April 10, 2017, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to investigate an officer involved shooting in Chattooga County, Georgia. The incident began Monday afternoon shortly before 3:00 when officers from the Chattanooga U.S. Marshal’s Office and the Atlanta U.S. Marshal’s Office Southeast

Regional Fugitive Task Force were attempting to arrest Thomas Zane Campbell, age 31, in the 3000 block of Halls Valley Road, Trion, GA. Thomas Campbell was shot by law enforcement while they were attempting to arrest him.Responding agencies included Walker County Sheriff's office, Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Chattanooga Police Department, Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service. Walker 500, Engine 15, Truck 1 and Puckett EMS unit 814 also responded to the officer involved shooting. Law enforcement quickly requested Life Force due to the suspect Thomas Campbell injuries. He was airlifted by Life Force to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga with serious injuries. Campbell has a long criminal history and was recently convicted in Catoosa County on possession of firearm by convicted felon.The GBI is in the early stages of this investigation. When the investigation is complete, it will then be turned over to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit for review. Northwest Georgia Scanner responded to the area after hearing reports both on the scanner and by viewers of a Police activity including a Georgia State Patrol helicopter in the area of Halls Valley Spur Road. The Road goes through both Walker and Chattooga County the residence where the shooting took place is just inside Chattooga County in Trion. While a reporter was in the area waiting for more information and reason on the police activity he heard a series of gunshots from the vicinity of the house where the law enforcement had surrounded. The mugshot below is of the suspect Thomas Zane Campbell from Catoosa County October 02, 2011 where was arrested on multiple charges. Escape, Obstruction or Hindering Law Enforcement Officers, Theft by Taking, Driving under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, Pedestrian Under the Influence and Weaving.
