Two Rome teens sentenced to life in prison plus 35 years for killing Summerville store clerk

Two Rome, Ga., teenagers were sentenced to life in prison plus 35 years to serve for murdering a Summerville convenience store clerk in a robbery for cash, cigars, cigarettes and Doritos. They were sentenced by a superior court judge early Monday morning in the main courtroom in the Chattooga county courthouse. Assistant District Attorney Kevin Baugh relied on surveillance video, taped jailhouse phone calls and testimonies from acquaintances of Dylon Dave Allen and Zaykives Banard McCray in the trail. The two teenagers were found guilty by a Chattooga County Superior Court jury around 4:15 p.m. Friday afternoon. Zaykives Banard McCray, and Dylon Dave Allen, both 18, were found guilty of killing Chiragkumar Patel during a Jan. 15 robbery at the Melainne Inn Convenience Store in Summerville off Highland Ave. "During this investigation it took the combined efforts and cooperation of the Summerville Police Department, Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, GBI, Floyd County law enforcement and district attorney's office. We want to thank the public for the tips and information that we received in this investigation. It takes everyone working together to make our city a safe place to visit and live," Summerville Police Detective Ty Hutchins, who was the lead investigator in this case. (Summerville News)
