Two teenagers found guilty of murdering a Summerville convenience storeowner

Two teenagers were found guilty of murdering a Summerville convenience storeowner by a Chattooga County Superior Court jury around 4:15 p.m. today. Zaykives Banard McCray, and Dylon Dave Allen, both 18, were found guilty of killing Chiragkumar Patel during a Jan. 15 robbery at the Melainne Inn Convenience Store. Both men will be sentenced by a superior court judge at 9 a.m. Monday in the main courtroom in the courthouse. Dylon Dave Allen, of 156 Reservoir Street, Rome, for malice murder, two counts of felony murder, armed robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, wearing a mask or hood to conceal identity and simple battery. Zaykives Banard McCray, of 200 Ross Street, Rome, for malice murder, two counts of felony murder, armed robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, wearing a mask or hood to conceal identity and simple battery Patel, 46, did not die immediately after being shot once in the stomach behind his convenience store counter. He struggled for 50 days and finally died in a Floyd County hospital. Only one bullet was fired during the robbery. Despite that it came from a single shooter, both Allen and McCray are being charged with Patel's death.
