Authorities believe alcohol played role in deadly Walker County crash as third victim dies

Alcohol is suspected to have played a role in a one-vehicle traffic accident that killed the driver and two children in Walker County, Ga., on Saturday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Christopher Rowles, 51, Blake Hunt, 5, and Brandon Hunt, 10, died from injuries they suffered after the minivan Rowles was driving crashed into a tree along Highway 136 between LaFayette and Villanow. The vehicle left the roadway and traveled on the shoulder about 300 feet before hitting a tree. After hitting the tree head-on the vehicle rotated clockwise coming to rest. Speed is not a factor in the crash a Georgia State Patrol official said. Investigators found a cooler and an open container at the scene, according to authorities. Officers are awaiting the results of toxicology report before officially determining if alcohol played a role in the crash. The child in the front right passenger seat was the only one in the vehicle wearing a seatbelt. This crash was the second fatal crash in Walker County this weekend the other happened Friday night on the Bypass near the Post Office.
