Walker County crash kills man and child leaving another child in critical condition

The identities of a man and child who were killed in a one-vehicle collision in LaFayette Saturday evening has been released as well as the identity of the male child who remains in critical condition. A 5-year-old male child and a 51-year-old male driver were killed Saturday late afternoon following a one-vehicle collision in LaFayette. The survivor of the collision, a 10-year-old male child, was rushed to Erlanger Hospital where he is in critical condition. According to Georgia State Patrol Post 41, on Saturday, Feb. 18, around 5 p.m., Christopher Adam Rowles was driving a gray 2000 Chevrolet Venture minivan when he was heading west on Ga Highway 136 at Ponder Creek Road when he left the roadway while attempting a curve in the highway. He was traveling between 55-60 mph at the time of the wreck.The vehicle traveled around 300 feet until the front end of the minivan careened into a tree.The impact ejected Rowles from the vehicle. Rowles was not restrained in a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.The 5-year-old male child, Blake Hunt, was located behind the driver's seat and had to be extracted from the vehicle. Blake Hunt was not restrained in a child's safety seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene.The 10-year-old male child, Brandon Hunt, was located in the passenger seat and was restrained by the seatbelt, but is undergoing several surgeries and remains in critical condition at Children's Hospital of Erlanger in Chattanooga. A crash in Walker County claims the life of one man, child and sends another to the hospital. The crash happened just after 5:00 Saturday evening. Sheriff Steve Wilson confirms to North West Georgia Scanner it happened on Highway 136 just north of Ponder Creek Road. Sheriff Wilson says the van was traveling north on Highway 136 when it left the roadway and hit a tree. The driver, Sheriff Wilson says was thrown from the car. A second child was taken to Erlanger Children's hospital in critical condition. GSP is Investigating the fatal crash. Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says the driver who died in the crash was a 51 year old man. A 5 year old was also killed and was unrestrained. Child Killed was not in a booster seat or buckled up, according to GSP. They were apparently just running an errand. uthorities have not released their identities. GSP said the man was the fiance of the children's mom.It's unclear what caused the crash.
