Trion City Schools on lockdown after a suspicious person with a knife spotted in Trion

Trion Police Chief Jason Kellet said Trion Schools went on Lockdown as precaution Monday morning, after a suspicious male was seen by a worker with a knife near 1st Baptist Church in Trion. The male took of running a foot. Law enforcement quickly put the school on lockdown as a safety precaution. Trion Police Department, Chattooga County Sheriff's office, Georgia State Patrol along with Hays State Prison K-9 responded to assist with the search and lockdown of the school. The male is said to have some mental issues and is identified as Vernon Earp. Police say they just wanted to talk with him and that he was not going to be arrest since he hadn't done anything criminal. Chief Kellet said he was beginning to move marked patrol units out of the area and that he he felt there was no longer a threat.
