GSP Investigating Serious head on collision involving Georgia Department of Corrections Van leaving Josh O'BryantJan 19, 20171 min readThe Walker State Prison Station 8 Fire Chief and a male motorist are in serious condition following a two-vehicle head-on collision along U.S. Highway 27 just below Saddle Ridge School at Turnipseed Road in Rock Spring on Thursday. According to Georgia State Patrol Post 41, on Thursday, Jan. 19, around 12:50 p.m., a Walker State Prison van, with the Station 8 Fire Chief at the wheel and an inmate inside, were traveling north on U.S. Highway 27 when a man driving a Honda Accord was traveling south and began to veer into the north bound lane at high rate of speed when he collided head-on. Witnesses at the scene said it was a load band/noise they ran to check on the patients. One patient was airlifted via Life Force Both the driver of the van and the driver of the Honda were transported to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga and are said to be in serious condition. chief Mann suffered an exposed femur fracture he was said to be in surgery and is listed as critical condition. A blood sample was drawn from the driver of the Honda while at the hospital to determine if he was under the influence at the time of the collision. The male inmate being transported received minor injuries.
