A man lead Fort Oglethorpe police on a high-speed chase before eventually crashing his vehicle in a ditch and taking off on foot, police say. According to the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department:
Kristopher Khari Hutchins, 20, of Gadd Road in Hixson, Tenn., was arrested Sunday, Dec. 18, on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude police, reckless driving, speeding, window tint, failure to maintain lane, too fast for conditions, and driving on a suspended license. He has been released from jail. The chase began just after 1 a.m. on Dec. 18 when Officer Tyler Crosby attempted to pull Hutchins over due the heavy tint on his windows. Hutchins refused to pull over, and a chase ensued along Mack Smith Road, into Tennessee for a short time, and then back into Georgia along U.S. Highway 41, reports show. "We crossed the state line into Georgia traveling approximately 90 mph in a 55 mph zone," Crosby said. "The roads were wet and slick, and Mr. Hutchins' vehicle was unable to maintain a single lane of travel." Near a big curve at Wooten Road along U.S. 41, Hutchins lost control of his Ford Fusion and wrecked into a ditch before taking off on foot, reports show. Crosby says he caught up to Hutchins before he could enter a wooded area, and actually slipped and fell just before being apprehended. When asked why he speed away from Crosby during the initial traffic stop Hutchins claimed he ran because he had active warrants out for his arrested, a claim later corroborated through Catoosa County dispatch.
