Fires continue to burn in the region Monday morning, Georgia Forestry officials are working a lot of wildfires in the area right now. With all the fires and smoke in the area you'd think we was in California. The neighborhood is in Dade County and residents were told by Georgia Forestry to be out of the area by 3:45 pm Sunday afternoon. Georgia Forestry officials said the evacuation was to help firefighters protect the homes and at this time forestry officials do not predict structure damage. Georgia Forestry crews set backfire and continue to re-enforce fire breaks created late last week on the Lookout Mountain fire in Dade County. The Highlands Neighborhood on Lookout Mountain was evacuated Yesterday due to the Tatum Gulf wildfire. The fire on Tatum Gulf on Lookout Mountain met with the Cloverdale fire and is currently at 1,325 acres with 10 percent containment. The total acreage is expected to reach more than 3,000 acres, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission. Crews worked throughout the night on Lookout Mountain, with the fire there only being 5% contained. Trenton Methodist Church and the Salem Community Center were opened as temporary shelters. Floyd County had a wildfire Sunday afternoon on Dublin Cir in Rome that damaged one structure a mobile home and threatened others it was reported around 20 acres. Another large wildfire sparked Sunday evening in the area of Chamberlain 23617 GA-193, LaFayette, GA. Fires have caused the area to be very smokey please remember to only call 911 if you see flames. Please don't burn it's illegal and causes local firefighters to have to respond to something unnecessary. If you would like or wanting to help/donate to the hard working firefighters you can! Georgia Forestry is requesting tissues, hand sanitizer, hand soap, water, gatorade, chapstick. You can drop items at KWN studios (Gross Shopping Center) You can also call Georgia Forestry office ((706) 657-4211) to ask what they are in need of and where to drop items off
